Therapy designed for you

Online individual therapy in New York State

I work with adults residing in New York State. My practice is affirming and inclusive to the BIPOC, Latinx, and L.G.B.T.Q.I.A.+ communities.

Trauma Informed

This approach makes it a priority to provide an emotionally safe environment while establishing trust, supporting autonomy and choice. My perspective uses a strengths and empowerment-focused approach to promote resilience, healing and the development and building of coping skills to support emotional regulation. This approach is based in an understanding that when trauma occurs, it affects an individual's sense of self, their sense of others and their beliefs about the world. Trauma informed care also promotes hope and a belief that healing from trauma is possible.

Mindfulness Based

Using mindfulness in therapy means that you are supported in the development of seeing the world through a lens shaped by a non-judgmental awareness and acceptance of your present moment experience. Mindfulness helps us to accept and value things just as they are including thoughts, beliefs and physical sensations while encouraging openness, curiosity, and acceptance. Mindfulness supports a new way of looking at yourself and the world that can lead to self compassion and a gentler understanding of yourself. Using the breath as an anchor and stabilizing force, the connection of mind and body are honored. New skills can be learned to help maintain emotional balance and practice compassion when working on managing self-doubt, self-hatred or other strong emotions.

Motivational Interviewing (MI)

It’s a person centered approach to therapy which supports clients exploring decisions related to a possibility of a change in their lives. Motivational Interviewing helps to explore reasons, needs, and desires involved in change in order to find a way out of being stuck which could be uncomfortable, or possibly feel unhealthy. MI recognizes and accepts there is usually a part of you that doesn't want to change, and another that does, while especially recognizing that ambivalence is normal on the path to change. Any change isn't easy and having support can help to find clarity and direction. Changes can be big or small, and related to any kind of decision whether involving relationships, health issues, career, addictions, identity or any kind of life situation where a struggle exists.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

This approach places an emphasis on helping individuals learn to evaluate their thoughts, feelings and behaviors with an underlying idea that they are all connected. Through exercises in the session, as well as sometimes “homework” exercises to practice between sessions, you are supported in the development of coping skills. An emphasis is placed on learning and changing unhelpful ways of thinking which ultimately influence feelings, emotions, and behaviors. CBT can give you more control over where your thoughts are going as well as a greater understanding of your cognitive process and behaviors.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

It’s an approach to psychotherapy that supports the idea that we all have separate part of ourselves, some of which may be wounded and need care. IFS seeks to compassionately uncover, heal and consider the core of each person as a whole. IFS focuses on healing any wounded parts looking to restore internal balance and emotional stability by considering ways to change the dynamics and relationships between different parts of the self - some that need care while other parts might provide the care. IFS seeks to notice and find ways to care for any emotional needs may have been historically left unmet. Learning to listen, understand and engage with yourself, while welcoming each part, allows for any extreme or fixed beliefs to be re-evaluated in a gentle and supportive way.
